ATEE Winter Conference 2018
Today, only 14% of young people in poor countries complete their studies up to higher education and this figure is down to 1% for refugee children and almost non-existent for girls. The situation is even more challenging in sub-Saharan Africa where 70% of countries face teacher shortages and 90% of them do not have enough secondary school teachers. To address this global challenge on education in emergencies, we hope this conference theme on refugee education will bring necessary awareness as to how the role of teachers and teaching needs to evolve. We welcome research papers and/or documented individual best practice experiences on refugee education to facilitate subsequent co-creation of innovative learning solutions for refugee education. An example of such a project of Utrecht University of Applied Sciences can be found on the website of ICEFIL.
