With the distance of 37min by train, Rotterdam is only a stone’s throw away from Utrecht and therefore perfect for a day trip. With about 650.000 inhabitants, it is the second biggest city behind Amsterdam. During WW II , Rotterdam was almost completely destroyed, a tragedy that’s provided the opportunity for the modern skyline of today’s cityscape to be built.

Although it was -20 degrees when I visited the city, I had a great time. However, if you don’t want to freeze off several body parts I would recommend planning a visit during warmer temperatures.
