In 2050 an impressive 70 percent of the world population will be living in cities. How can we keep our cities liveable and sustainable? A city that enables residents to enjoy urban life to the fullest without imposing unreasonable burdens on limited resources? What physical transition is needed? What social transition is required? And what new forms of entrepreneurship and innovation are necessary to realize these sustainable cities? Cities are now widely recognized as part of the solution to living within ‘planetary bounderies’.
Take part in thinking about future cities. Come and join us at the international conference ‘Smart Sustainable Cities 2017 – Viable Solutions’ (SSC2017). Whether you are a student, a lecturer, working in construction or a municipality, your experience and ideas are more than welcome. We need each other to keep future cities livable and sustainable. This conference will take place on 14 June 2017 in Utrecht (the Netherlands), with a pre-programme on 13 June. The congress will be hosted by the Centre of Expertise Smart Sustainable Cities of HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, in partnership with four other European higher educational institutions from the CARPE network and three regional governments (cities of Utrecht, Turku-Finland and Alcoi-Spain). These partners are all cooperating in the international project ESSENCE: European Sustainable Solutions for Existing and New City Environments.
