Unlocking Opportunities through Numeracy: An Erasmus+ Initiative
Numeracy is a cornerstone for success in today’s digital, democratic, and dynamic world. Despite its critical importance, adult numeracy remains under-researched and under-funded across Europe, leaving many people unable to fully participate in society and the labour market. Lower Numeracy is correlated with lower experienced health and lower income (PIAAC, 2024). This Erasmus+ project aims to address these challenges by promoting innovative approaches to numeracy education that empower adults to improve their skills and navigate life’s complexities with confidence.
This project empowers adults who want to improve their numeracy skills for better job prospects, personal development, and active citizenship. Through an integrated and evidence-based approach, the initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of numeracy, increase the availability of high quality numeracy courses, and strengthen the professional development of teachers and teacher-educators. Key outputs include practical teaching and learning materials, professional development resources, and white papers on best practices in numeracy education. All outputs are aligned to the Common European Numeracy Framework (CENF), ensuring they are adaptable and effective in different contexts.
Working with partners in 11 countries, this project aims to have a lasting impact on policy and practice, ensuring that numeracy provision is established as a standard practice and accessible to all. Through multiplier events, dissemination activities, and a commitment to sustainability, this initiative promises to change the landscape of adult numeracy, enabling individuals and communities to reach their full potential.
