In celebration of 150 years of abolition of slavery, the Teachers’ History Program, in collaboration with the Diversity & Inclusion Network, is hosting a meeting with Ms. Cynthia McLeod. She is a Surinamese historian, writer/storyteller about Suriname’s slavery past. One of her most famous books is Hoe duur was de suiker? (Vaco, 1987) which was also filmed in 2013.
The theme of this meeting is the history of slavery and its impact on today’s society and thus our education. The content fits well with the history teacher education minor “slavery and racism. Moreover, it contributes to the goals of the Diversity & Inclusion Network, which will organize a series of activities around this theme in the coming year.
