Keti Koti Utrecht has been an annual event since 2018 to commemorate and celebrate the abolition of transatlantic slavery. Keti Koti is also commemorated and celebrated every year in other places in the Netherlands on June 30 (commemoration) and July 1 (abolition celebration). On July 1, 2023, it will be 150 years since slavery was abolished in the former kingdom. From July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024, extra attention will therefore be paid to it throughout the kingdom during the Slavery Past Commemoration Year. To make the commemoration and celebration of Keti Koti 2023 in Utrecht a great success, we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who want to commit themselves on June 30 / and or July 1, when Keti Koti takes place in the Griftpark in Utrecht.
Volunteer roles & timeslots
We are looking for volunteers for various functions, such as production and backstage hosts, visitor hosts, coordinators of the exhibitors and activities, communication heroes, and construction and dismantling workers.
On June 30 and/or July 1 you will work in a shift of 4 to 5 hours. Longer is of course also possible. After that, you have all the time to enjoy the program as a visitor. Food and drinks during and after your shift are provided.
On June 30th we have shifts from 12:00 to 16:00 / 16:00 – 20:00
On July 1st we have shifts from 10:00 – 14:00 / 14:00 – 19:00 / 19:00 – 23:00
Visitors Keti Koti
Everyone is welcome at Keti Koti and we ask all visitors, volunteers, and visitors to treat each other with respect. We think it is important that as many people as possible can participate in Keti Koti, as a visitor, and as a volunteer. If you are unsure whether a certain function is feasible for you or if we can take something into account, please let us know when you register.
What is expected of you?
We are looking for volunteers who want to raise awareness about the transatlantic slavery past and who like to work with different people. Good communication and organizational skills are a plus, but we are especially looking for people who are willing to learn and work together in a team. In addition, you must be available for a part of the day on June 30 and/or July 1.
