Networking

Another way to find an internship is via your network. Currently, approximately 75% of the job openings is filled indirectly. Your network is larger than you think. Maybe family members work at interesting organisations, or your parent’s friends, acquaintances, colleagues from side jobs, former classmates, people with whom you play sports, parents, or brothers/sisters of friends. Employers like applicants who are recommended to them. If you know someone within the organisation, you are in a better position than the other applicants.

Grow your network

If your network is larger, you’ll have a greater chance at a valuable tip. Maybe a classmate doesn’t seem to be that interesting at first, but he or she also has a network. That way, you can help each other to get an internship.

Use LinkedIn to map out your network and to expand it.
