Canal Pride: Better than ever!

“The reason I’m here is that I think everyone should be who they want to be.” Said Elias, who entered the parade on behalf of Hogeschool Utrecht and Utrecht University. It was the fourth edition of the Utrecht Canal Pride. It has not been able to take place since 2019 due to Corona, but this year the event was back. Better than ever before.

In total, more than 50 boats are taking part in the Pride. The canals of Utrecht turned all colors again thanks to the festive boats. The Utrecht Canal Pride is an LGBTI+ event with the aim of creating more visibility and acceptance for the LGBTI+ community. A festive day, where everyone can and can be themselves.

The day started with a delicious lunch, after which it was time to board the boat. Once on the boat, the party could really start. There was great dancing while enjoying the music and a drink. Every boat on the water looked phenomenal and was richly filled with all the colors of the rainbow. The quays were also filled with a huge number of visitors.

There was much love and joy in the air. This is something we naturally strive for every day. It’s important to hold these kinds of events because: acceptance starts with visibility. A successful first edition for Utrecht University of Applied Sciences and Utrecht University. Many thanks to the GSA (Utrecht University of Applied Sciences) and Inclusion (Utrecht University) for making it possible to participate in the Pride.
