Learning materials and environment


The 6 course modules on Smart Sustainable Cities (more: Information on Course content):
Essential for the project is the development of 6 course modules on the following topics:

Introductory course on smart sustainable cities – an introduction on the complex challenges in smart sustainable cities. HAW in the lead, and HU, TUAS, MMU, UPV involved (2,5 ECTS).

Methodologies: blended learning, co-design, creative techniques, persuasive techniques, system engineering, modelling (BIM), e.o. – HU in the lead and HAW, TUAS, MMU, UPV involved (2,5 ECTS).

Sustainable cities the social design: social innovation, policy, citizen participation- HU in the lead, MMU and TUAS involved (5 ECTS).

Sustainable cities: the physical transition; energy, water, air quality, landscaping the urban environment, materials, e.o. – UPV in the lead and HU, HAW, TUAS and MMU involved (5 ECTS).

Enterprise and Sustainable cities: sustainable business models, entrepreneurship, Start-Up competition, e.o. –  MMU in the lead, and MMU, HU, TUAS and Incubator-facilities involved (5 ECTS).

The regional project: Smart Sustainable Competition- sustainable region or cities – with UAS TURKU in the lead and HU, UPV and the 3 municipalities of Turku, Alcoi and Utrecht involved (10 ECTS).

The Higher Education Institute (HEI) with the strongest competences on the specific subject is always in the lead. The lead is given the responsibility to manage the other HEI’s involved, towards the result. The HEI’s have to work closely together in working groups and will make use of digital communication (Skype, e-mail). The piolot of this course will start in September 2016 at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht.

Essence blended learning environment

During the first meeting is decided about the Essence learning environment. The learning environment is developed and on line. The environment is used as a development environment for the staff working on the course material, at the same time, as an working course environment with the six courses on Smart Sustainable Cities. The first try out with students of the learning environment will take place in June, 2016. More information about the Essence learning environment
