Students from other disciplines are not eligible. The Minor program ESSENCE starts on Monday the 5th of September 2016 and will go on until the 29 th of January 2017. Because it is a pilot course, we have a max. of 28 students admissions. We will welcome 14 students from the Netherlands and 14 students from abroad.

Students from abroad

The introduction day for students from outside the Netherlands, will be on Friday the 2nd of September. This introduction day is offered by the International Office of the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. More information on the site of HU International office

For the Dutch students: students have to pay their own travel costs. For the project you have to travel probably to Alcoy (Spain) or to Turku (Finland), although you can stay in Utrecht if you want. The Essence project will arrange a room/living for the Dutch students participating in the project during the fieldwork period from three weeks.
Beware: food and other subsistence costs will be on your own account.

For the students from outside the Netherlands: their are no costs for housing. The rooms will be facilitated by the Essence program for the students during the whole course, this includes the period of the three week fieldwork within the project. The housing in the Netherlands will be in a student-complex, nearby the Campus Utrecht Science Park. For this, only a registration-fee by the Student housing company is needed: for this you have to count with an amount about 150 Euro’s. The student-complex consists of units for 8-10 students, with shared kitchen facilities. The rooms are for two students, so you will share your room with a student (of the same gender), participating in the same program.

Students have to pay their own travel costs. This includes the travel costs to arrive in Utrecht and the costs to do the fieldwork during the project. Students from abroad could choose if they want to stay in Utrecht and do their project in Utrecht (without extra travel costs), or if they want to do their project in Turku (Finland) or Alcoi (Spain), with the consequence of the extra travel costs Utrecht – Turku or Utrecht – Alcoi.
Beware: food and other subsistence costs will be on your own account.

Part of the registration process is healthcare insurance and a learning agreement between student, sending and receiving institute about ECTS. In this agreement courses and exchange of credits will be set up, to agree on the exchanged credits (obtained at foreign HEI). However of your university accept all, of a part of the ECTS towards your own degree, please talk this over with the contact person of your university.

After the confirmation that you’re accepted in the course, you will receive your login and password for the digital learning environment (the Moodle).

The course will be completed with a student competition. All the students who finalize the course with success, will receive next to the ECTS a certificate for assistance, by all the participating partners in ESSENCE.
