Accommodation

Sustainable new building
By concentration and construction of new buildings, the HU has become a much more sustainable organisation. The new premises  provide us with 25% less gross floor area. Our newest building at Heidelberglaan 15 has even become the first educational building in the Netherlands to achieve the highest BREEAM level, Outstanding! BREEAM is an international measuring instrument for the sustainability of buildings, areas and demolition projects. The new building scores high in all categories, including the use of planting on the roofs, the thermal energy storage system, the solar panels, the elevators and the escalators. But also in mobility policy and waste separation. The decisive factor is the solar panels that we have installed on various buildings, through which helps the HU make a considerable contribution to its own energy supply. For more information why Heidelberglaan 15 has been nominated for the BREEAM Award, click here.

Colleagues within walking distance
The joint accommodation at the USP is not only more sustainable, but also allows institutes and study programmes to collaborate more intensively. There are many team rooms and colleagues are within walking distance. Collaboration has become easier. Not only with each other, but also with external knowledge partners such as Utrecht University, UMCU and the regional business community. We work together on themes that are important for the region, such as Care & Technology, Creative Industry, Sustainability and Working & Learning in the Neighbourhood.

Energy labels
When a building is constructed, sold or leased, an energy label must be present (since the beginning of 2008). This is an energy performance certificate. The energy label is building-bound and provides information about the amount of energy required for standardised use of that building. This means energy consumption for heating, hot water supply, lighting, ventilation and cooling per building.

The buildings of HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht have the following energy labels:

  • Padualaan 97: Label A
  • Padualaan 99: Label A+
  • Padualaan 101: Label A+
  • Heidelberglaan 7: Label A++
  • Heidelberglaan 15: Label A++
  • Bolognalaan 101: Label A
  • De Nieuwe Poort 21 (HUA): Label A
  • Koningsbergerstraat 9: label B
