Transition Programme and core team

About the programme Transition to Sustainable Education

The goal of the HU is to train professionals who use integral sustainability as a guideline for their professional and personal actions in all five HU sectors in which HU offers education: economy, education, healthcare, technology, social.

As the starting point of a core team Transition to Sustainable Education, senior lecturers have been appointed for each VH education sector (sector economy, technology, healthcare, social and education) in the period 2023-2024.

In December 2024, HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht then gave its commitment to the HU-wide strategic programme Transition to Sustainable Education. This four-year programme started on 1 January 2025 and is evaluated annually for progress, including a go-no go moment.

The program has three strategic lines, inspired by the model of the Ecological Handprint by Reint Jan Renes.

  • Motivating and collaborating with students, colleagues and partners, (communication and community building);
  • Developing capacity (curriculum renewal, professionalization and professional products);
  • And offering the necessary opportunity (strategy, policy, quality and PDCA) to make the transition a success together.

We are convinced that as a broad university of applied sciences, HU has everything it takes to make the transition a success. It will also be a movement in which we grow together and as an organization in the coming years. Of course, that doesn’t happen by itself. That is why this movement is made possible, driven and coordinated through an HU-wide core team Transition to Sustainable Education.
