The registration period for a minor in the 2025-2026 academic year is approaching. To prepare you as best as possible, we have compiled the most frequently asked questions. Not only for HU students but also for students from other educational institutions who want to do a minor at HU.
For HU students
When can I register for a minor at HU?
Participate in the draw on April 10 by submitting your top 3 HU minors in Osiris from March 14 to 21. The draw is organized because each year there is more interest than space for certain minors. This way, we give everyone a fair chance to participate in a HU minor of their preference. On April 10, you will hear which minor you have been selected for and you will be automatically registered.
Do I need to submit my top 3 as soon as possible on March 14 to increase my chances of being selected for my preferred minor?
No, you do not need to do this immediately at 00:00 on March 14. It is not first come, first serve. You have the entire week to submit your top 3.
There is only one minor I like. Do I really have to submit three minors?
By submitting three minors, you increase your chances of being selected for a minor you really want to do, but it is not mandatory.
Do I have a better chance of being selected for my favorite minor if I only submit one minor?
No. In fact, if you submit one minor that happens to be very popular, the chances are higher that you will not get any registration for a HU minor because you may be excluded from this minor.
What should I consider when compiling my top 3?
It is important to carefully look at the admission requirements of the minors you are interested in, and whether the minors are allowed by your examination committee. It may be that the minor of your choice has too much overlap with your bachelor’s program.
The lottery is for all periods (AB, CD, and Lint). You can also submit different periods in your top 3 if your study planning allows. Submit your top 3 in order of most favorite to least favorite in Osiris and check if you have the correct period for each minor.
My favorite minor is offered in multiple periods. Can I put both periods of the same minor in my top 3 to increase my chances of being selected? For example: 1. Minor A in period AB, 2. Minor A in period CD, and 3. Minor B
This is possible if your study planning allows, but you are essentially submitting one minor choice. This has an advantage and a disadvantage: if your favorite minor is popular, it may increase your chances of being selected, but you are giving up a chance to be registered for another minor.
I have submitted my top 3 in Osiris. How do I know that my pre-registration has been successfully processed?
You can find your top 3/pre-registration in Osiris under pre-registration minor and you will also receive an automatic confirmation in your HU email (confirmation pre-registration minor). Check if you have received this confirmation and if your top 3 is correct. If you do not receive a confirmation of your pre-registration, something went wrong. You can only re-enter your pre-registration during the period from March 14 to 21.
I want to adjust the order of my top 3. Can I do this?
You can only adjust your top 3 during the period from March 14 to 21. After March 21, you cannot make any changes.
I did not participate in the pre-registration and lottery. Is there still a possibility to register for a minor for the next academic year?
From Monday, April 14, you can register yourself in Osiris for a minor, provided there is still space. More information about registration and deadlines can be found here.
I am also exploring a minor outside of HU. How do I register for that?
The pre-registration and draw are only for HU minors; you do not submit minors from other educational institutions in Osiris. Registering for a minor outside of HU is done via www.kiesopmaat.nl.
Can I participate in the draw for a HU minor and register for a minor outside of HU at the same time because I have not yet made a choice?
This is possible, but make sure that once you have made your choice, you cancel your registration because otherwise, you may be holding a spot for another student.
For students from other educational institutions
How do I register for a HU minor?
From Friday, March 14, you can register for a HU minor via www.kiesopmaat.nl by downloading the learning agreement of the minor and registering in Studielink. The entire registration procedure is here.
Am I registered for the minor if I have downloaded the learning agreement via Kies op Maat and completed my registration in Studielink?
No, you are not yet registered for the minor! This is only the case if your fully completed learning agreement is signed and your spot in the minor is confirmed by HU. Log in to Osiris Registration of HU. Answer the questions, upload your learning agreement, and submit the registration. Only then can we process your registration. Learning agreements are processed in order of arrival (first come, first serve). Within ten business days (excluding holidays and mandatory days off), you will receive an email about the progress of your registration. If the minor has an intake, the minor contact person will contact you. If there is no space left in the minor, you will receive a message about this.
