Facilities on the HU for your mental health

If you break your leg and end up in a cast, everyone will see that you are in pain. You take the elevator at the Hogeschool Utrecht, people will open the door for you more quickly or indicate something quickly. Physical pain can often be seen more clearly, and the facilities are more clear, such as an elevator. This is often different from mental complaints. It is less visible to your surroundings, and the facilities are not known to many students.
That is why we are happy to tell you what the HU has to offer you.

Student Sanne Bruinsma, who graduated from the Communications program, has conducted extensive research into the various facilities that Hogeschool Utrecht offers for mental health.

Online modules

First of all, the HU offers a lot of online modules that can provide you with information to prevent your complaints from getting worse. This could be about anything. There are modules for money problems, self-image, relationship problems, work stress, alcohol, and so on. Please take a look at this website. The modules can be completed without obligation and free of charge.

Student support centre

Within the Hogeschool Utrecht, there is a Student Support Centre for and by students. They provide training and workshops to improve your mental health. This can be about dealing with uncertainty, yoga, and mindfulness, but also studying with dyslexia, procrastination, and learning how to learn. There are many other training courses that you can follow. But in addition to training and workshops, they also organize study stimulation groups. For example, would you like more structure in your study week? Or do you have support needs, such as AD(H)D or dyslexia and would you like to talk about this with students with the same? Then take a look here.

Choise counseling

Are you unsure whether your study is right for you? Do you want to do a master’s after your bachelor’s, but don’t know where to start? You are not the only one with these difficult questions. On Choise Counselling you can find information and exercises that can help you further. Is this not enough for you? Then you can also schedule an appointment for an individual conversation or follow a workshop or master class. Take a look here on the website.

Student psychologists

There are also student psychologists within the HU. For example, do you have a lack of motivation, concentration problems, family problems, loneliness, excessive alcohol and drug use, or something else? Then you can come here. You can be referred to this via your study career counselor or possibly the dean.

Dean

There are also counselors that you can turn to with personal circumstances that could hinder your studies, such as long-term illness, family circumstances, an appeal, or physical or psychological circumstances. Do you want to use this? Then you can send an email to decanaat@hu.nl.

Do you have any questions about the facilities within the HU? Please send an email to info.di@hu.nl.
