“Not just a grade, but real work”

Three HU students are working on an honour project focussing on collecting more volunteers for the ANNE house, a hangout spot for Ukrainians. They are creating posters, networking with other HU institutes and working. In this article, we meet the second student, Sha Li.

As a second-year Creative Business student, Sha learned about the project from a friend she immediately got inspired to help. Sha knows the circumstances are very different, but she still recognizes many of the daily struggles the Ukrainian refugees face. “I’m originally from China, and I know what it feels like to live alone for the first time in another country. I know the daily problems, and I want to help them.”

The chance to work as a student does not often cross your path, but Sha grabbed this chance with both hands, “I get to explore creative things, like posters and speak to people to know what the refugees need. This way, I learn how to work but can also put my skills to use and help people.”

Sha is not just interested in making posters and looking for volunteers. She wants to know people’s situations, what they need and what is going wrong. So Sha and her fellow students can help them in the best way possible and volunteer their skills simultaneously, “I want to do something. Not just getting a grade, but real work.”
