Blok A-B

Research skills 2025-2026
Are you ready to take your honours track to the next level?
Join our new pilot course on research skills in Block A & B (2025–2026)!

As part of the Honours Programme in Engineering, we are launching a pilot course on research skills in Block A of 2025–2026.  The honours students who attend the Engineering+ programme will follow this course but the course is open for all students who would like to improve their research skills. The course aims to provide students with practical tools and methods to strengthen their ability to conduct, present, and communicate research in both academic and applied settings. The lectures will be given in English.

The pilot course will guide students step by step from research introduction to data analysis and communication of results.

What students will learn;

  • How to set up and run your own research project
  • The research cycle: from question → method → data → conclusion
  • Data skills: collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing big datasets
  • Statistic: t-tests, confidence intervals, spotting outliers
  • Using AI responsibly in your research
  • How to avoid plagiarism and reference correctly
  • Communicating your results so they make impact

Students will contribute to ongoing research projects (e.g., within a lectorate), either individually or in small groups. They will apply the skills learned—such as data collection, analysis, visualization, and critical reflection—while working according to models of triangulation and research validation. The aim is to prepare students not only for their honours trajectory, but also to give them practical skills they can use in future projects, internships, and their professional careers.

The course will start in the first half of block A and continues in block B. The exact date and time will follow soon.
